ᐅ How should I properly construct the ceiling? Which materials should I use? Maybe drywall panels?

I removed the wooden ceiling in the living room. Underneath, there are now battens attached directly to the bare hollow concrete blocks. The ceiling will be wallpapered later, and a light box will be installed around the edges.

How should the ceiling be constructed now?
Vapor barrier, then battens, and possibly drywall sheets? Cracks should, of course, be avoided...
Thank you

The vapor barrier is important, but only if there is no heated room above the space.

Then install a battens framework and fix the drywall panels onto it. However, I did it differently and installed wood paneling. It looks really great, with no joints or gaps.

A wooden panel definitely looks nice, but it’s also a matter of cost. Years ago, I once installed a dropped ceiling using gypsum board panels. Our goal was to reduce sound transmission, which we managed to achieve quite well.

Exactly, it’s a matter of budget. But drywall panels can also do the job. They are usually finished with wallpaper. This method is relatively quick and cost-effective. It's also a good option for mounting light fixtures.

The question always comes up: how much money do I want to spend? Then the second question follows: can I do this work myself, or do I need a professional company?

I also installed our suspended ceiling myself using wooden panels. This also allowed me to easily install the ceiling lighting.

I also like wood on the ceiling, and it looks good. I believe it’s better to spend a bit more money but get something of quality in return.
