Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to equip my kitchen with Ikea Metod wall cabinets, but I have an important question that has not yet been fully clarified: How secure are these Metod wall cabinets under load? Specifically, I am interested in how much weight the cabinets can typically hold without compromising stability or causing the mounting hardware to pull out from the wall.

I am not only thinking about regular kitchen appliances or storage jars, but also occasional heavier loads, for example, if something heavier is stored in the cabinet or if the door is accidentally bumped. Additionally, it would be helpful to get advice on the optimal installation, since the mounting system is often considered the weakest point.

Are there practical experiences? I look forward to reliable feedback, including any official manufacturer guidelines and recommendations on what to avoid. Thank you!

From my own experience, I can say that the stability of my Metod wall cabinets mainly depends on proper mounting and the weight they carry.

At first, I trusted the included wall plugs, but on a friend’s advice, I got heavy-duty anchors – this definitely gave me more security.

Still, I always made sure not to overload the cabinets, especially by avoiding storing very heavy items on top. It also makes sense to consider how the cabinets will be used: If there are children in the household, extra caution is necessary.

That matches my experience. Especially with older walls, it’s better to use higher-quality wall anchors.

I also made sure to fasten the screws directly into the wooden studs whenever possible.

Additionally, when installing cabinets, it helps to distribute the load evenly rather than putting all the weight on one side. If you plan to store many heavy items, consider using extra support systems.
