Hello everyone,

I am planning to buy an IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and have an important safety question that hasn’t been fully answered yet: How secure are the Brimnes wardrobes in terms of stability and sturdiness when mounted to the wall?

I have read from various users that wall mounting is essential for IKEA furniture to prevent tipping. Since I live in a household with small children, I really want to make sure the wardrobe cannot fall over, even if pulled on or possibly climbed.

I am particularly interested in:
- Are the included wall mounting fittings for the Brimnes of sufficient quality, or is it better to use your own anchors and screws?
- How well does the furniture hold up in everyday use when properly assembled and mounted to a typical interior wall (plastered drywall or brick wall)?
- Are there any visible weak points I should be aware of and take precautions against?

I look forward to your experiences and insights! Thanks in advance.

whether the included wall plugs are strong enough for a standard brick wall

Yes, most IKEA wall plugs are suitable for brick walls. However, for older buildings or walls that are not load-bearing, it is better to use heavy-duty anchors.

I have given this some more thought and put together a short checklist for safely mounting Brimnes cabinets to the wall:

- Check the wall type: brick, concrete, or drywall? For drywall, always use appropriate hollow wall anchors.
- If in doubt with brick walls, use heavy-duty anchors as they provide better support.
- Screw placement: at least two fixing points, preferably three, near the top of the cabinet.
- Do not fasten screws into any damaged areas of the cabinet back panel.
- After installation, always tighten screws again and check that the cabinet is securely fixed.

This will keep you on the safe side. By the way, the Brimnes back panel can be somewhat thin, so do not overload it.

If you want, I can also help you with a detailed installation guide.

I’m grateful for any additional tips!

For me, it also helped not to rush the installation. I first carefully tested all the drill holes, then gradually installed the anchors and screws. This increased stability, and I didn’t feel that anything was loose.

I also want to emphasize that the cabinet is safer if it is not fully loaded to the top but kept somewhat lighter. This is especially important with children, as they often like to pull on or climb the cabinets.

Good luck with the assembly!
