Hello everyone, I am currently considering buying some IKEA Platsa furniture for my twins’ bedroom. An important question for me is: How safe are IKEA Platsa products for children? Specifically, I am concerned about factors such as stability, absence of harmful substances, tip-over safety, and injury risks from sharp edges or corners. I am also interested in whether the assembly instructions are sufficient to build the furniture safely for children, or if professional knowledge is needed. Are there any users who have Platsa furniture in a children’s room and can share experiences regarding these safety aspects? Any information, including potential issues or proven measures to improve safety, would be very helpful. Thank you!

Just because furniture meets EU standards doesn’t automatically mean it is childproof.

Thank you for the critical comment. I am also very concerned about the gap between being "legally compliant" and being "child-friendly." Have any of you experienced issues when using these products with children despite the standards? Specifically with Platsa, problems like load-bearing or tipping have already been mentioned. How have you managed these challenges in everyday life? Or do you prefer alternative products that are specifically designed for children?

Based on my experience and objective safety assessments, PLATSA offers a flexible furniture solution that can be safe for children if assembled correctly. A key aspect is to strictly follow IKEA’s stated load limits and to consider the intended user group. The wall mounting mentioned by several users is crucial. Additionally, for crawling babies or toddlers, it is important to avoid accessible sharp edges. When in doubt, padding can provide extra protection. For those seeking maximum safety, I recommend checking the furniture’s stability, especially its resistance to tipping, or consulting a professional during assembly.

I love my PLATSA furniture for our kids' rooms! 😊 It's very flexible and grows with the children. Of course, safety is a top priority for me as well! I always use wall fastenings, and we have corner protectors installed on all edges. This makes the kids' room feel safe – you can even use the furniture as a play area. I can only say: go for it, the assembly is actually straightforward and the result is impressive!

The issue of tip-over safety is central to PLATSA. IKEA emphasizes adhering to the required safety measures included with the product. Without wall anchoring, I would not expose the furniture to a child. Corner protectors are a useful addition. We have not detected any harmful substances.

The assembly instructions for PLATSA were clear, but I still had to make some adjustments.

This is exactly what you need to keep in mind: properly tighten and adjust the furniture after assembly. Otherwise, stability is quickly lost. This is especially important when there are children around.
