Hello everyone, I’m currently looking into the question: “How fast can you assemble IKEA Brimnes furniture?” Specifically, I’m interested in how much time one should realistically plan for assembling a typical Brimnes piece, such as a bed frame or a sideboard from the series. By this, I don’t just mean the actual assembly time, but also preparing the parts, sorting the screws, and carefully reading the instructions. Are there any experience-based estimates for someone who is skilled but doesn’t assemble furniture daily? And how much do the times vary between a first attempt and assembling the same furniture multiple times? I look forward to your insights and specific information, thank you!
I would like to go into more detail about the assembly process of Brimnes furniture. First, it’s important to note that the assembly time greatly depends on the type of furniture piece. A bed frame with storage naturally requires more time than a small sideboard or nightstand. It is crucial to read the entire instruction manual before starting, to better understand the workflow. Experienced individuals often sort the screws and fittings by type and quantity beforehand, as this saves time during the actual assembly. The usual sequence is – Preparation: read instructions, check parts, prepare tools – Assembly: follow the step-by-step instructions, check intermediate steps – Finishing up: check stability, put away leftover parts.
For a Brimnes bed with storage compartments, I would estimate around 2 to 2.5 hours for an experienced DIYer working at a moderate pace. Completing the entire assembly in under 1.5 hours is, in my opinion, only possible if you have done the process several times before and everything goes smoothly. On the first try, it’s normal to encounter minor uncertainties, especially regarding the positioning of parts or inserting screws.
It would be interesting to know whether you plan to assemble just one piece of furniture or several, and whether you will be working alone or with someone else. This also significantly affects the required time.

Additionally, although the instructions are clear, some steps require precise work. The screws often come in different lengths, and it’s easy to only realize at the end that, for example, the wrong screw was used. This can cause delays.
I recommend having both a Phillips screwdriver and a cordless drill with adjustable torque on hand. This speeds up assembly without risking driving screws too deep into the wood.
For Brimnes wardrobes or beds with drawers, plan for at least 2 hours. Less time is possible but only if you have experience.

- Taking the time to carefully read the instructions and organize the individual components is the most important step for efficient assembly.
- Most of the screws used in the Brimnes range are clearly labeled, but impatient assembly often leads to mistakes that end up costing time.
- If you assemble with two people, dividing the tasks is very helpful: one reads the instructions aloud and holds the parts, while the other does the screwing.
In my view, the average assembly time for a medium-sized Brimnes item (e.g., a sideboard with drawers) is about 1.5 to 2 hours when working alone. For beds, it is usually 2 to 3 hours if you are not experienced.
If anyone wants tips on tool usage or common sources of mistakes, I’m happy to help!

If you’re building with two people, dividing the work is very helpful: one person reads the instructions and holds the parts, the other screws them together. Exactly, that speeds up the whole process significantly. I would also recommend sorting the screws and fittings beforehand. This saves a lot of time searching during assembly.
