SeanleHello everyone, I’m currently planning a move and considering disassembling my Ikea Platsa shelving unit to reassemble it at the new place. I’m particularly interested in how quickly the Ikea Platsa can be taken apart and put back together. It’s important for me to know whether this can be done easily by one person or if it’s better to work with two. Additionally, I would like to find out if any special tools are needed and if there are common pitfalls that might slow down the process. I want to have a realistic estimate of the time required so I can plan the move accordingly. Thanks in advance for your experiences!
The Platsa is actually quite manageable to assemble. If you work quickly and plan well, you can easily complete the build in under 2 hours with two people. On your own, I would estimate a maximum of 3 hours—of course, not counting coffee breaks 😉. The important thing is to carefully review the manual beforehand and sort all the wooden parts, screws, and connectors in advance. This makes everything smoother!
Regarding the time required: Platsa consists of modular units, which generally makes assembly easier but can also be time-consuming, for example, when removing drawers or doors. I recommend taking photos of the assembled condition before dismantling to avoid confusion later. Basic tools are included, but having your own Phillips screwdriver with a good grip will make the work significantly easier.

I have assembled the Platsa several times. Doing it alone takes about 2 to 3 hours. With two people, it’s faster—around 1 to 1.5 hours. Disassembly is somewhat quicker. Tools needed: a Phillips screwdriver and possibly a hammer. Nothing complicated. Thanks for the quick assessment! So you mean that disassembly actually takes less time than assembly? Do you have experience with how much time disassembly roughly requires—e.g., per module or for the entire system? And have you done it mostly with or without drawers and doors?
