Hello everyone,

I have a specific question regarding the maintenance of IKEA Hemnes furniture: How often should screws, joints, and fittings be tightened or generally maintained to ensure stability and longevity?

Since Hemnes is often made of solid wood, I assume that screws can loosen over time, especially with everyday use. I am curious whether IKEA or other experts provide recommendations on how frequently checks or tightening should be done— for example, after six months or annually.

Are there any particular points or connections that are especially critical? Perhaps also tips for proper maintenance?

I look forward to your experiences or expert advice!

I guess, ideally, one should take preventive measures to avoid damage.

Exactly! It’s better to check the screws one time too many than to have a wobbly dresser that slides around the room.

Personally, with Hemnes furniture, I always check at the start and end of the season – so in spring and autumn. I tighten the screws and watch for any changes.

It might sound a bit strict, but it’s actually quite fun – you could call it a biannual “screw party.” Especially if you want to keep the furniture for a long time, it really pays off!

I really appreciate that you’re sharing so many tips and facts here! Hemnes furniture is great, and I now tighten it as Karsten45 suggested – every 6 months. That feeling when everything is firmly in place again is fantastic!

Additionally, I recommend occasionally treating the furniture with special care products designed for furniture to protect the wood and surface. This is often underestimated, but it truly extends the enjoyment of your furniture.

So: stay on it, everyone, your furniture will thank you! 😊

For me, tightening once a year or so is sufficient.

If a piece of furniture is under heavy load or you notice any changes, it’s better to check more often.

Overall, it’s not a big effort and keeps the furniture stable.
