Hello everyone, I am currently focusing on the care and maintenance of my IKEA Brimnes furniture, which I purchased about 2 years ago. My question is: How often should this furniture be maintained to ensure durability and stability? Specifically, I am interested in recommendations for checking screws, surface care, and possible measures when wear signs first appear. If maintenance intervals vary depending on the furniture type within the Brimnes range, that information would also be helpful. Thank you in advance for your insights!

Semi-annual maintenance with normal use sounds good. Usually, tightening screws and wiping surfaces is sufficient. In case of damage or squeaky drawers, more targeted attention is needed.

I would like to add that the sliding surfaces of drawers should also be lubricated regularly. Most Brimnes dressers have plastic runners, which require little maintenance, but applying some silicone spray or special furniture wax can still help. Simple maintenance of moving parts every 6 to 12 months prevents wear and significantly extends their lifespan.

You should also ensure that the furniture is not overloaded, as this can stress the joints and affect the overall stability.

My experience with Brimnes is that if you use it mostly as described—rather statically—you will do well with tightening the screws every six months and checking the fittings once a year. You can clean the surfaces as often as needed depending on how dirty they get, since cleaning does not have a negative effect.

A tip: When cleaning, use soft microfiber cloths instead of abrasive sponges to avoid damaging the melamine surface.

I agree: Check screws every six months, keep surfaces clean regularly, and address any signs of wear as needed. This way, the piece of furniture remains stable.

It is important to tighten immediately at the first signs of looseness. Otherwise, secondary damage can develop quickly. Therefore, it is better to check more frequently than less often.

I completely agree. Even when it comes to lifespan, regular maintenance is beneficial. For Brimnes furniture, I recommend quarterly checks if in doubt, especially for heavily used pieces. This way, unnecessary retrofitting can be avoided.
