ᐅ How often do you use your roller shutters?

Hello everyone,

I’m curious how often you use your roller shutters and how much added value they provide for you.
At the moment, we hardly ever use ours, and after renovating our house, I can’t see why that would change (especially since the energy-saving aspect will almost disappear).
So, I’m considering leaving out the roller shutters (one less thermal bridge) and instead installing decorative, non-functional shutters.

Best regards

South is not as important as east and west.
Typically, I just look at my neighbors’ houses here 😀
So, blinds were enough for me. On the south side, I have a view that I can still enjoy in summer with venetian blinds.
I’ve also noticed how significant "reflections" can be. Having venetian blinds at the top on the south side, where the sun is so steep that it doesn’t shine directly inside, or venetian blinds at the bottom, can make a difference of 1-2°C (2-4°F).

Hmm, so your residential area dates back to before 2000? Do rattling roller shutters still exist, or not anymore?
No, it is a residential area from about 10 years ago. For example, my neighbor’s house is from Schwörerhaus.

So, venetian blinds without guide rails. Saved money in the wrong place.

We only use them in the children's rooms when they sleep during the day and in the bedroom when the sun shines in as early as 5 a.m.

In the other rooms, we could have done without them. However, we only have manual strap-operated roller shutters. Honestly, I don't understand the advantages of electric ones either; the straps hide behind the curtains and the shutters can be lowered in 0.5 seconds and raised in 1.5 seconds.

We don’t have any Venetian blinds. Our roof eaves are wide enough to prevent direct sunlight from entering the rooms in summer. Besides, I would find it terrible to always sit in the dark during summer.

With venetian blinds you’re not sitting in complete darkness (unlike roller shutters).
I wouldn’t like to have less light in the rooms on cloudy days just because my roof overhang is so large.
I have guide rails, and the venetian blinds only rattle during really strong winds. I also don’t have a wind sensor that automatically raises them.
Recently, with Axel, who damaged our pavilion plant containers, we had no problems with the lowered venetian blinds.

Electric operation is preferable because it can be automated (I still need to arrange that) or at least centrally controlled...

WARNING: Just a name coincidence. It wasn’t me!
