ᐅ How often do you use your roller shutters?

Hello everyone,

I’m curious how often you use your roller shutters and how much added value they provide for you.
At the moment, we hardly ever use ours, and after renovating our house, I can’t see why that would change (especially since the energy-saving aspect will almost disappear).
So, I’m considering leaving out the roller shutters (one less thermal bridge) and instead installing decorative, non-functional shutters.

Best regards

For us, they are absolutely indispensable.
Otherwise, the children don’t fall asleep before 11 p.m. in the summer. They really need darkness. My husband is also very sensitive to this.
Then the blind in the living room is down as soon as my husband wants to watch TV, and during the summer, they are sometimes partially lowered at peak times.

daily – automated based on dusk and time control.

We have 17 windows and 5 patio doors; without external venetian blinds or roller shutters, it simply won’t work. On sunny days, without external venetian blinds, the ground floor reaches 26–27°C (79–81°F), even when the outside temperature is -5°C (23°F).

But even a passive house has windows you can open briefly, right?
It’s hard to explain. We’re always invited to Christmas dinner with everyone there. Just leaving a window slightly open isn’t enough, it hardly has any effect. Nowadays, they don’t even turn on the stove when guests come.

Still, the living room heats up so much from the people that you practically have to keep a patio door open all the time. But then, in December, someone is always sitting in the draft, which is uncomfortable. If you close or tilt it, it quickly gets as hot as before.

In summer, they seem to have fewer problems, which surprised me too. It’s probably due to the roof overhang that was specially designed for this, and we live in a very rural area. The house is not located in a densely built new development. They were lucky to secure a good piece of meadow next to the house. There are chickens roaming there now, and around the house there’s quite a bit of green space, including mature trees and shrubs. This also blocks direct sunlight from hitting the house.

Here, it is also integrated daily into various scenarios. We travel back and forth at least once. In summer, even more often due to the shading effect.

Only as summer heat protection and, if necessary, at temperatures below -20°C (-4°F).

daily, sometimes several times a day, depending on the light incidence. Every night, all on the ground floor are closed.
