ᐅ How often do you use your roller shutters?

Hello everyone,

I’m curious how often you use your roller shutters and how much added value they provide for you.
At the moment, we hardly ever use ours, and after renovating our house, I can’t see why that would change (especially since the energy-saving aspect will almost disappear).
So, I’m considering leaving out the roller shutters (one less thermal bridge) and instead installing decorative, non-functional shutters.

Best regards

There are several possibilities. Presence in or around the house/property in general, combined with absence in other rooms, combined with presence in the bedroom, combined with presence in bed. Considering the time of day, the position of the sun, and the duration spent in bed.

The example with showering is, of course, simpler. If you just go to shower, the house knows that you are showering – so you are not sleeping.

Every day, since we don’t have children yet and sometimes run around naked in our currently still apartment, not every neighbor needs to see that.

Also, I definitely need the blinds for sleeping. When the sun shines in my face at 5 a.m., I totally lose it 😀

This was very important to us and we included it in the house design right from the start. In the long term, I plan to make them smart with Shellys, like others here in the thread, so I can adjust them according to the position of the sun.

Has anyone here already discussed burglary protection? With fully closed blinds, I definitely feel safer when I’m on vacation, etc. It certainly makes a break-in less attractive.

I personally preferred mechanical roller shutters. They were hardly available. I really had to search to find a company that still offers them. However, they were only available for the narrower windows.
I much prefer the mechanical roller shutters. They are faster and more practical. And they don’t look unattractive from the inside at all. They hardly stand out.
Unfortunately, they were not cheaper.

Forget about regular roller shutters for burglary protection. And if they stay closed the entire vacation, you might as well put up a sign saying you’re away.

By the way, each electric shutter counts as one point, especially the large windows commonly installed today. For floor-to-ceiling windows over 2m (6.5 ft) wide, I imagine using a strap (belt) shutter is quite inconvenient.

So, a complex interplay of several presence detectors?

Not just occupancy sensors—that would be too imprecise.
