Hello,

I wanted to ask you what the optimal pressure is for the cold water supply line?
We have a semi-detached house with bathrooms and water connections on a total of 3 floors.

The water connection is in the basement, where we also have a washbasin.
On the ground floor, we have a guest toilet, and on the upper floor, there is a bathroom with a bathtub and a shower.

Currently, the pressure is 3 bar (43.5 psi), but, for example, the water pressure in the kitchen is quite low (this might also be due to the faucet). The lawn sprinkler doesn’t reach very far either.

What would be your recommendation for water pressure?
What is the upper limit before it becomes harmful to the pipes and fittings?

I have had between 5 and 6 bar (72.5 and 87 psi) of pressure in the pipes for years to ensure the sprinkler works effectively.
If the pressure at the faucet is too high, I slightly adjust the angle stop valve.

When I fill a pool at 600 liters per hour (160 gallons per hour), the pressure is only about 2.5 bar (36 psi), I think.

600 liters/hour (160 gallons/hour) doesn’t really say much. It could be 10 bar (145 psi) at a small pipe or 1 bar (15 psi) in a 32mm (1 1/4 inch) pipe (numbers are arbitrary).

3.5 bar (51 psi) is sufficient for us. I wouldn’t go above 5 bar (73 psi). If it’s that important for just one sprinkler to cover the entire garden area at once, run a separate line with a different diameter and pressure for the garden faucet.
