Hi everyone, we are currently planning our housebuild quite intensively, and when it comes to choosing a heating system, we are considering using a heat pump. We have heard from friends that, in the long run, it can be more cost-effective because heating costs are reduced. However, these friends do not have one themselves yet; they are just thinking about it. What is your opinion on this? What should we consider? Would you recommend it? We are also thinking of getting advice soon from Vaillant, as they apparently have pretty good customer service. In general, I would appreciate any tips on this topic. Thanks in advance!

What is 17 kW for?
If you reach KfW 55 EE standard, the heating load should decrease significantly.

I was also surprised at first. But it’s 370 m² (3982 sq ft) of heated area!

Exactly, we have 240m2 (about 2583 square feet) of living space (160m2 (about 1722 square feet) of which is underfloor heating) and around 130m2 (about 1399 square feet) in the basement (home theater, gym, playroom for the kids, bar, etc.). These basement rooms aren’t fully heated (usually kept around 18-19°C (64-66°F)), but it adds up.

Overall, in addition to the 160m2 (about 1722 square feet) with underfloor heating, we have 21 radiators distributed throughout the house.

Is it planned to replace the radiators with underfloor heating during the renovation? The expected new heating load should have been calculated during the planning phase—what result was obtained?

If the radiators remain, I would not choose a heat pump.

What will pellets cost in 10 years if everyone who cannot or does not want to properly insulate replaces their oil heating systems with pellet boilers now?
