Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to assemble an Ikea Pax wardrobe system and am wondering how many people you would generally recommend for the assembly.

I understand that it depends on the size of the Pax system—whether you are assembling just a single unit or a full combination. At the same time, I have read that some manage to assemble it alone, while others emphasize that at least two people are needed, especially because of the size, weight, and alignment.

What I am specifically interested in is your experience: how many people do you consider sensible or even necessary to make the assembly of the Ikea Pax as efficient, safe, and frustration-free as possible?

I would also like to hear if you notice differences in the number of people needed depending on the complexity of the Pax configuration (for example, with sliding doors, 2 meters (6.5 feet) tall, etc.).

Looking forward to your tips!

From a practical standpoint, I clearly recommend having at least two people for assembling an Ikea Pax wardrobe system.

- Reasons:
- Dimensions and weight: A single wardrobe module can weigh well over 50 kilograms (110 pounds), making it difficult and potentially unsafe to handle alone.
- Assembly precision: The components must be precisely aligned for doors to close properly and sliding doors to operate smoothly.
- Safety: The risk of damage or injury increases significantly when working alone.

The number of helpers needed may increase when combining multiple modules or installing additional features (sliding doors, interior fittings).

Recommendation: Two people as a minimum, and three or more for larger combinations. This makes assembly much safer and more efficient.

I consider two people to be optimal. Individual tasks can be done alone as well, but they are unnecessarily time-consuming. Especially alignment usually works well only with two people.

Hello lulore,

I will address the question from a technical and practical perspective.

When assembling Ikea Pax units, please keep in mind:

- The individual carcass parts are large, sometimes heavy and unwieldy, so assembling them alone is not only tedious but also carries a risk of damage.

- Aligning the modules perfectly is essential to ensure that no door or sliding door gets stuck later. This is difficult to do alone because you need to fix the alignment before tightening the screws.

- When assembling in the room, where the back panels of the carcasses are installed, one person should hold the cabinets straight while the other screws them together.

- Depending on the design with sliding doors, precise adjustment and assembly aids are also required, which is easier with two people.

- I personally recommend at least two experienced people, and for larger projects or full-height cabinets, possibly three.

- If you let us know the height of your Pax cabinets and which doors you are using, I can provide more specific advice.

I hope this helps you further.

I’m also curious: What are the exact dimensions and weight of your configuration? Do you have experience assembling furniture?

Thanks in advance for the detailed feedback; I’m glad the opinions are fairly consistent.

Regarding my parameters: These are two Pax units, each 2 meters (6 ft 7 in) tall, with a width of 100 cm (39 inches) and a depth of 60 cm (24 inches). The doors are classic hinged doors, not sliding, with simple fixed shelves inside.

I assemble furniture fairly often, so I’m not completely inexperienced, but the Pax is quite a large piece.

I’m looking forward to any specific advice you may have regarding these dimensions or tips for handling units of this size.
