Hello everyone, I am currently wondering how long the warranty on IKEA Platsa furniture lasts, especially for the kitchen cabinet systems. I am planning to purchase a larger PLATSA system, but I want to understand beforehand what kind of protection I have under the warranty. Is the warranty period set by the manufacturer for a specific duration (e.g., 10 years, 5 years), or does it depend on the product group? I am also interested in what types of typical damage or defects are covered by the warranty. Perhaps someone here has practical experience or information from official sources that could help me get a clearer picture. Thanks in advance!

Are there possibly official assembly instructions or certificates provided by IKEA to avoid voiding the warranty?

I can confirm from my own experience that the included instructions are very detailed. For Platsa, the steps are clearly outlined, and the manual explicitly points out which parts need to be installed with extra care.

It also makes sense to carry out the assembly on a stable, level surface and to strictly follow the recommended fastening methods (e.g., wall anchors for securing to the wall). This helps prevent future stability issues, which would otherwise not be covered by the warranty.

Another thing I learned is that IKEA staff in the store can often provide additional tips if anything is unclear, which adds an extra layer of confidence.

Regarding spare parts: IKEA generally keeps spare parts for PLATSA available for at least 5 years after the product has been discontinued

Thanks for the information, I wasn’t exactly sure about that. I would like to add that with my PLATSA system, there were some minor differences in the hinges between generations — I have replaced small parts several times. It really helps to have the exact product number or model name on hand to get the right parts.

If there is ever a warranty claim, it’s relatively easy to address it by contacting IKEA by phone or in-store. In my experience, the company handles such cases well as long as it’s clear the damage was not caused by misuse.

Finally, I would like to address the legal framework of the warranty, as it is often confused with the statutory warranty:

- The 10-year warranty is a voluntary commitment by IKEA that goes beyond the statutory warranty.
- Under the statutory warranty (2 years), the buyer is entitled to repair or replacement in case of defects; however, IKEA must also comply without the warranty.
- IKEA’s warranty terms require proper use and care of the furniture; please also refer to the exclusion criteria defined in the warranty conditions.

Therefore, I recommend reading the warranty terms carefully and contacting IKEA customer service if there are any uncertainties. This helps avoid misunderstandings and allows you to effectively exercise your rights.

For PLATSA in particular: with modular expansions, the warranty always applies individually to each purchased part, meaning the warranty period starts from the respective purchase date, not as a blanket coverage for the entire set.
