SinjamilHello everyone,
I would like to ask how long it usually takes to assemble the IKEA Brimnes range on average. Specifically, I’m interested in experience-based estimates for a typical process—from opening the packaging to complete assembly—including any potential difficulties or special factors that might affect the time required.
It would be great if you could also mention any differences depending on the furniture piece from the Brimnes series (e.g., bed, chest of drawers, wardrobe), if relevant. I’m planning to assemble several items and want to realistically estimate the time needed.
Thanks in advance for your insights and experiences!

How long does it usually take to assemble the IKEA BRIMNES series? On average, assembling a single piece like a chest of drawers takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. For a bed or larger wardrobes, it’s more around 2 to 3 hours. More complex items or difficult assembly conditions can increase the time needed.

Complex parts or difficult assembly conditions can increase the time required. That’s always the key issue – I often get the impression that the official assembly times given by IKEA are deliberately very optimistic, to make customers think they’ll finish faster. The reality? It can easily take twice as long if you’re not completely familiar with every step or don’t have the right tools.
Also, the BRIMNES range doesn’t just include simple carcasses but sometimes flaps and drawers with complex mechanisms. For people who aren’t very experienced, that can turn into a frustrating marathon.
I’d also be interested to know if anyone has timed the differences when assembling two or more BRIMNES items together – do the times simply add up, or do you maybe save time through gaining experience by the end? Let’s discuss!

I'm specifically interested in typical experience regarding the overall process – from unpacking the packaging to complete assembly, including any potential difficulties or special factors that could affect the time required. In my experience, the BRIMNES furniture is well designed and the instructions are clear. For a chest of drawers, I usually allow about 1 hour. Bed frames vary significantly; 2–3 hours is realistic depending on accessories (such as under-bed drawers, etc.).
- Don’t underestimate unpacking, especially with beds since there are many small parts involved.
- Preparing a suitable workspace and sorting screws beforehand saves time.
- Having two people is recommended; assembling alone noticeably takes longer.
When assembling multiple pieces: experience makes a difference. In my last project, assembling the second item was faster because I knew what to watch for. Still, I suggest not simply adding up the times but including a 20–30% buffer.
If you have questions about specific BRIMNES furniture, feel free to ask.
