Hello everyone, I am currently planning the complete installation of an IKEA Metod kitchen and trying to realistically estimate how much time is actually needed for this. My specific question is: On average, how long does it take to fully assemble a complete IKEA Metod kitchen, including all base cabinets, wall cabinets, countertops, and all installation work? I would also be interested in hearing whether you think the time required varies depending on prior experience, number of helpers, or specific challenges. If anyone has tips on how to make the process more efficient, I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you!
From a factual perspective, the assembly of an IKEA Metod kitchen is flexible. Factors that influence the duration include:
- Number of cabinets: 6 to 12 cabinets require approximately 12 to 20 hours for assembly.
- Experience: Skilled DIYers complete the installation more quickly.
- Number of people: At least 2 people are ideal.
- Level of preparation: Sorting parts and having the right tools ready save time.
It is advisable to plan for at least two full days including breaks. The separate assembly of carcasses, fronts, the countertop, and installation of the appliances should be taken into account.

It is important to take breaks and not rush the assembly, otherwise it becomes frustrating quickly. I spread my construction over three days, working 5 to 6 hours each day, and I am satisfied with the process. This way, it’s also easier to respond to any mistakes.

If you don’t have much experience with furniture assembly, you might need a bit more time. It’s better to allow some extra buffer to avoid frustration. This sounds especially important to me since I have rarely assembled furniture myself so far. I also have a practical question: How much time should be planned specifically for the preparation, including sorting and carefully going through the assembly instructions? I mean everything before the first screw. Thanks!

During this time, all parts should be carefully unpacked, grouped, and checked against the list in the manual. Getting a clear overview is extremely helpful to avoid searching later on. Having a well-organized workspace with plenty of room also makes the entire process much easier.Similar topics
