Hello everyone, I recently purchased some Ikea Brimnes furniture, specifically dressers and wardrobes, and I’m wondering how long the hinges actually last in practice.

I’m not just referring to the theoretical specifications, but your real-life experiences: do the hinges on Brimnes furniture often have issues after six months, more than a year, or even several years? How sturdy do you find the mechanism with daily use—for example, opening and closing the doors every day?

I’m also interested in whether these hinges are easy to adjust, if they tend to sag or make noise over time, and how they hold up with intensive use.

Perhaps someone even has tips on how to extend their lifespan or what challenges to watch out for during assembly. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I have been using my Brimnes dresser for almost two years now. The hinges work perfectly, with no sagging or creaking sounds. It is important to install it exactly according to the instructions and to regularly tighten the screws slightly.

Thank you for your question, kensin. I have had Brimnes furniture for about three years and can tell you that the hinges were a bit stiff at first, which bothered me because I was worried they might break quickly. By now, they have become much smoother, even though I use the cabinet doors daily. Sometimes I worry they might get stuck, but so far there haven’t been any major issues. I hope it stays that way.

Great topic!! I love my Brimnes dressers 😍 The hinges have held up perfectly for 1.5 years (18 months) now, really sturdy! My advice: If you notice any creaking, make sure to tighten them—this will extend their lifespan significantly. I wasn’t worried about them breaking because Ikea parts are often surprisingly durable.

I understand that this is bothering you because it also annoys me when furniture starts having issues after a short time. In my case, the Brimnes hinges became slightly loose after about 2 years, but I just tightened them with a screwdriver – that fixed the problem immediately. Maybe this could be an option for you as well if you notice any issues.

Thanks for the feedback! How often did you retighten the screws? Do these problems really only occur after some time? I can imagine that especially moisture or frequent opening put stress on the hinges.
