Hello everyone, I’m interested in the durability of Billy shelves with daily use. Specifically, I want to know how long you can reasonably expect these shelves to remain stable when used every day—whether for storing books, folders, or occasionally heavier items. Are there any experiences in this forum regarding the average lifespan with daily use, for example in an office or home workspace? I’m hoping for realistic feedback that goes beyond warranty periods and reflects actual service life under normal conditions.

I can confirm this from personal experience. After about 6-7 years of use, slight warping appeared, especially on shelves that were constantly loaded with heavy books. I realigned the beams and carefully supported them with wooden slats, which helped for a while.

An alternative for heavy loads would be to install small supports or additional braces between the shelves. This increases the load-bearing capacity and reduces sagging.

Thanks to everyone for the very helpful and detailed responses. Overall, the lifespan of the BILLY shelves under daily normal use, following the load and care instructions and with reasonable care, seems to be in the range of 8 to 12 years, which meets my expectations.

I will also take into account the advice regarding moisture and assembly. This gives me a solid basis for making a decision. Thank you very much!
