We received a quote from the electrician for a 10 kWp photovoltaic system. However, I am wondering whether investing in a 10 kWp system is really cost-effective or if a smaller system might be sufficient. Our four-person household consumes around 4,500 kWh in our rented apartment without a heat pump. In our planned single-family house (140 m² (1,507 sq ft), KfW 55 standard), there will be an air-to-water heat pump and possibly an electric car in the future. I am not familiar with the energy consumption of heat pumps, but wouldn’t 8 kWp or even less be enough? We do not want to feed electricity back to the grid, and the feed-in tariff is not a reason for us to choose a larger system.

A standalone photovoltaic system with 10 kWp currently costs around €1400/kWp (without tax).
For 20 kWp, the price drops to about €1200/kWp.
If it’s more expensive, the solar installer usually won’t accept the job, for whatever reason.
About a year ago, both prices were roughly €200 cheaper.
How much you want to spend on a battery storage system (where price ranges vary widely) is up to you. If it costs more than €250/kW, it probably won’t break even. In any case, it is unnecessary.
(All values are averages. Usual regional differences apply.)

So, am I correct in understanding this? A 10kWp system with a 6kWp battery including installation should be achievable for a maximum of €20,000 gross?Hmm, the current offers I'm getting here in the north unfortunately suggest otherwise....D
Deliverer1 Feb 2022 15:30Yes, at the moment you have to search quite a bit because almost all are overloaded and therefore making defensive offers.
None is available on the market yet, unless building it yourself is an option.

It might be worth mentioning that the 10 kWp system is equipped with individual power optimizers. This could possibly justify the price to some extent.
