LasolauHello everyone,
I am considering getting an Ikea PAX wardrobe system but am still unsure about the exact dimensions of the drawers used in the standard model. My specific question is: What are the sizes of the drawers in the Ikea PAX standard model in the different widths and heights, especially the depth and the internal dimensions of the drawers?
I am mainly interested in understanding how much storage space I actually have for clothing, folders, or other items. If anyone here has practical experience with the drawers in the PAX series and can provide the exact measurements, that would be very helpful. I am also interested in the differences between various drawer heights (e.g., shallow vs. deep drawers).
Thanks in advance for your answers!

The drawers in the PAX system usually have a depth of about 55 cm (22 inches), with varying widths (commonly 50 or 75 cm [20 or 30 inches]). The height depends on the model; shallow drawers are approximately 10 cm (4 inches) high, while larger ones are around 20 cm (8 inches). The internal dimensions are slightly smaller due to the drawer slides.
Additional information:
The typical depth of the PAX drawers is indeed 55 cm (22 inches), matching the depth of the cabinet carcass. The width depends on the specific wardrobe width. The space taken up by the runner frame reduces the internal width by about 2 cm (0.8 inches), so for example, with a 50 cm (20 inches) wide front, around 48 cm (19 inches) of usable internal width remains.
The height of the drawers usually ranges from 9 cm (3.5 inches) for shallow drawers, ideal for items like shirts, up to about 19 cm (7.5 inches) for deep drawers that can also accommodate thicker textiles or file folders. There are also intermediate sizes, such as approximately 14 cm (5.5 inches).
It is important to keep in mind that when planning, the heights of the individual drawer modules need to be added together to effectively use the interior space.
If you plan to store binders, I recommend the taller drawers, as they offer about 18–19 cm (7–7.5 inches) of internal height, which is ideal for standard binders.
I can also provide you with the exact internal dimensions of the drawer sides if you want. What exactly do you plan to store?

I mainly want to store clothing (sweaters, T-shirts) and some file folders. So it would be helpful to know how many folders, for example, fit into a tall drawer and whether a width of 50 or 75 cm (20 or 30 inches) is more suitable for that.
I am also interested in whether full-width drawers are practical or if it’s better to have more smaller drawers to make organization easier.
Hello,
I completely understand how important exact measurements are. I have been using the PAX system myself for a few years and mainly use the 50cm (20 inch) wide drawers for clothes. The tall drawers are great for thicker sweaters, and my binders fit as well, but only lengthwise, not sideways.
I have found that having several narrower drawers (for example, two 50cm (20 inch) instead of one 100cm (40 inch)) works better for me because it makes organization easier and I don’t have to search through everything at once. The system is flexible depending on whether you want more overview or more storage space in one compartment.
Sometimes I wish the shallow drawers were a bit deeper, since T-shirts can sometimes get folded over. For thick sweaters, the tall drawers are perfect.
I hope this helps!

I would like to raise a critical question here: How reliable are the "standard" dimensions, considering that Ikea occasionally updates its products or varies the measurements for the outer drawers?
Especially regarding internal dimensions, it is often not adequately taken into account that the rail systems and frames occupy some space. There are also different construction methods (metal frames or completely flat wooden drawers). When you quote the measurements, please always include the version information or specify exactly which models you are referring to.
Another point: How about the load capacity for tall drawers? This is particularly important for file folders, which can become quite heavy.
