ᐅ How is the quality of the screws used in IKEA Brimnes furniture?

nobuklaHello everyone,
I recently purchased several Brimnes furniture pieces from IKEA and would like to know how the quality of the included screws is generally regarded. My question specifically concerns whether the screws are sufficiently durable and suitable for permanent assembly, or if there are experiences indicating that they tend to strip easily, rust, or fail after frequent assembly and disassembly. Are there differences in the types of screws used in Brimnes furniture regarding material quality or workmanship?
I’m asking because screws are often considered a weak point in more affordable furniture, which can affect stability and longevity. Are there any recommendations for replacement screws or assembly tips to improve durability?
Thanks in advance for your insights and experiences!

Hey nobukla, I think your question is really important! 😊 I have Brimnes furniture myself and can say that the screws seem quite sturdy. Of course, they are not high-end quality, but for the price, they are completely fine! 👍
Especially if you are careful during assembly and don’t overtighten the screws, they hold up really well and don’t rust easily. I’ve moved my furniture several times already, and the screws are still firmly in place.
If you want to be extra sure, you can always use stainless steel replacement screws – a bit more expensive, but they give you peace of mind in the long run. But I think IKEA did a good job here!
Good luck with the assembly, you’ve got this! 💪

I have Brimnes furniture myself and can say: The screws generally feel quite sturdy.I agree, but I would like to go a bit deeper: The screws included by IKEA for the Brimnes range are usually galvanized, which provides rust protection as long as there is no mechanical damage.
The type of screws is important: These are often chipboard screws and furniture connectors used for assembling panels and frames. The thread pitch and diameter are matched to the engineered wood materials used.
A potential issue is over-tightening the screws: Applying too much force can strip the threads in the base material, which compromises stability. Therefore, it is recommended to use a screwdriver carefully or set a cordless drill with torque control.
Additionally, it can be beneficial to use screws with a better alloy (e.g., stainless steel) if the furniture is placed in humid rooms or often moved.
One question for you: Are these pieces intended for heavy-use areas or more occasional use? This also affects how to assess the screw quality and whether replacements are necessary.

Regarding the quality of the screws in IKEA Brimnes furniture: the screws included with the delivery meet industrial standards for budget furniture. They are mostly made of galvanized steel, which provides sufficient corrosion protection for indoor use.
Brimnes furniture is mainly made from engineered wood products such as chipboard, so the screws and connectors are matched to the material’s load-bearing capacity.
However, excessive stress or frequent disassembly is not recommended, as the threads in the engineered wood are not designed for hundreds of assembly cycles.
For long-term use under higher stress, it is advisable to obtain higher-quality replacement screws made of stainless steel in the appropriate sizes.
I also recommend tightening the screws only with the correct tools and controlled torque to prevent material stripping.
Overall, the supplied screws are designed for normal use and are appropriate in quality, but not oversized.
