Hello everyone, I am currently considering getting furniture from the Ikea Brimnes series, especially the bed and dressers. Since I value durable and sturdy furniture, I would like to hear your opinions on the material quality. Does anyone have experience with the materials used, how durable the engineered wood is, or whether the surfaces show scratches or wear quickly? It would also be interesting to know how strong the overall construction is and if you have had any issues with deformation, assembly, or longevity. I would appreciate detailed feedback, particularly regarding everyday practicality and how well the furniture parts handle things like moisture or frequently used drawers. Thanks in advance!

I completely understand your concerns! I have had the Brimnes bed for about a year, and honestly, I was a bit unsure about the wood quality at first. The materials are more of a mid-range standard, so not solid wood but veneered particleboard. Still, everything holds up surprisingly well if you take good care of it. However, the surface is quite sensitive, and small scratches show up quickly, especially on the edges. The drawers are now a bit harder to open, but that could also be due to how it was assembled. Overall, I think the furniture is acceptable for the price, but it’s not as really sturdy as high-quality solid wood furniture.

To answer the question about the material quality of Ikea Brimnes specifically, here is a brief overview based on my experience and technical data:

- Brimnes mainly uses particleboard (wood-based panels) with a melamine coating. These are affordable, relatively lightweight, and resistant to moisture, but not as durable as solid wood.
- The surface may feel smooth at first, but it is prone to scratches, which can cause wear with heavy use and improper care.
- The furniture assembly relies on dowels and screws, providing fairly solid construction; however, stability can be compromised if mounted incorrectly.

My advice: When purchasing, pay close attention to careful assembly, ensure screws are tightened properly, and regularly maintain the surfaces with appropriate cleaning products. This can significantly extend the lifespan.

The Brimnes series features particleboard with a foil coating. Prone to scratches, but has a sturdy basic structure. Reasonable for the price, but not high-quality furniture.

That is correct. The Brimnes series from Ikea primarily uses medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and particleboard as core materials, coated with melamine or foil. This combination is cost-effective and sufficiently durable for regular residential use, but heavy use can quickly lead to wear and tear on edges and surfaces.

This highlights the importance of proper assembly. Regularly checking and tightening screws after assembly can also help maintain long-term stability.

For the price, it’s okay but not high-end furniture.

That sums it up perfectly. I would add that especially in heavily used areas like drawer slides and bed slats, it’s important to pay attention to the load capacity. I recommend watching Ikea’s assembly video thoroughly to avoid common mistakes. If you keep that in mind, you’ll get a piece of furniture that lasts several years in everyday use, even if it’s not a premium product.
