Hello,

we are currently planning our house.
Specifically, it will be a bungalow with an L-shaped design, similar to the one in the picture.
As you can see from the height measurements, the plot has a slight slope.
We want to build without a basement, and since there should be access to the upper garden area (opposite SiB) via a patio door, we want the house to be level with the terrace there.
This ultimately means that the lower part of the house will be about 90cm (35 inches) above the ground.
My question is: how is the frost protection footing and the slab foundation handled in this situation?
Do you excavate the frost protection footing all around with the slope and then, above the zero level (boundary to grassland), install additional formwork before pouring the frost protection footing to reach the zero level? How is the 90cm (35 inches) then filled? With crushed stone compacted firmly?
Am I correct with my assumption?
Thanks in advance!

Best regards, Tom

Where is north?

Where is the street?

Show us where the terrace will be placed.

Usually, the area for the terrace / house is then filled. This also ensures that the house has a frost-resistant foundation.

Hi,

the arrow points north, the access to the property is via the street on the right, and the main road runs below the property.

Okay, so it's best to proceed as I described: first remove the topsoil, then construct the frost protection footing while leveling out the height difference with formwork; pour the entire concrete structure, then backfill with gravel, and finally pour the foundation slab? Should the terrace be backfilled at the same time?

It depends. The slope is about the same as in our new development area. The easiest way is if you plan to backfill around the house later anyway, then the slope doesn’t matter (backfilling at the house is not the same as leveling the entire plot!). Otherwise, here we also have the option to gravel the entire area under the house plus a strip around it to a depth of 1 meter (3 feet).

One consideration is to shorten the house in the direction of the slope. This way, you will have less difference in elevation within the house area.

How many square meters (sq meters) of living space are you planning?

Will you be building a carport, garage, or parking space? With level access to the house?

What is the current or planned development in the area of your property?

Is there a building envelope / development plan?
