Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install an Ikea Hemnes shelving unit and want to secure it to the wall as firmly as possible. My question is: What is the most stable way to mount Ikea Hemnes shelves? I have reviewed the instructions, but the recommendations there are not detailed enough for my wall types (partly drywall, partly concrete). What additional measures or tools would you suggest to ensure the shelf remains safe and stable over the long term, with no risk of tipping over or loose connections? I would appreciate advice on suitable anchors, screws, wall attachments, and how to connect the shelf components securely. Thank you!
Another guide I recommend for mounting the Hemnes shelf as securely as possible:
- First, check the wall for load-bearing capacity and the condition of the surface.
- For drywall (plasterboard) walls, it is advisable to attach the shelf directly to the wooden studs whenever possible. If the shelf is only screwed into the drywall surface, the use of cavity anchors is mandatory.
- Securing the shelf at multiple points on the wall helps distribute the load more evenly.
- Additionally, during the assembly of the shelf components, make sure to reinforce all joints with glue before screwing them together.
- Use a drill guide to ensure the holes are drilled straight, so the screws fit properly.
This approach prevents loosening of connection points and significantly increases the torsional rigidity.
