Hello everyone, please bear with me as I am new here. If my question is inappropriate, I apologize in advance 🙂

We are considering having a KfW55 energy-efficient house built. We already have a potential building plot in mind. Since we both like to know what to expect, our question concerns the ongoing additional costs that come with owning a house. Of course, this depends on consumption as well—we are 2 adults and 3 children aged between 3 and 9. We would like to live in beautiful Brandenburg.

Maybe someone can share their experience? We would really appreciate it 🙂

Best regards

I wouldn’t finalize an RLV without the house now, and I probably won’t keep it for the entire duration of the financing either. It really only serves to secure the loan. So, you can count it as part of that.
This belongs to the category of financing costs, but not to the additional costs of the house.

Yes, that's probably better placed there. In the end, though, it’s just shifting money from one pocket to another.

Maybe you could count that, but

and

aren't really HOUSEHOLD additional costs, are they?!
This here

is, though.

No. Or would you not have those without a house?
Sure, some only start thinking about this with high mortgage rates, but these are definitely not costs incurred because of the house or for its maintenance.

In the condominium, my service charge is around 300 EUR (about 320 USD), plus about 20 EUR (21 USD) per quarter for property tax.
The house, let’s see. I haven’t done any projections yet. Some things I don’t even know yet, like sewage, for example.

It’s probably called an extended household insurance:

“Your household contents (home contents) are insured for replacement value against damage caused by: fire, lightning strike, explosion (F); burglary, robbery, vandalism after a break-in (ED); water damage from plumbing (LW); travel luggage (RG); natural hazards (hail, storm, flooding, backwater, ground subsidence, landslide, rockfall, snow pressure, and meltwater). Your personal liability and that of all persons belonging to your household (insured persons) as private individuals is also covered.”

And if the broadcasting fee counts as a household additional cost, then Netflix and Prime should almost count too. What about cable TV costs? We avoid those because we watch via satellite, plus the extras mentioned above.

I also consider internet and TV as part of the additional costs. These are things that everyone has and they incur monthly expenses. For me, it amounts to nearly 90 euros per month.

The difference, I think, is that the broadcasting fee has to be paid, while Netflix and similar services are a personal choice. Although I don’t specifically link it to house building. But for me, it generally falls under "ancillary costs."

The broadcasting fee is a mandatory charge per household, so it could be included. It applies regardless of whether you have cable, satellite, DVB-T, internet, or any other service.

The broadcasting fee is compulsory, even if you do not own a single radio receiver.
