Hello everyone,
I am currently looking into IKEA furniture, specifically the Hemnes series. I am particularly interested in the build quality of IKEA Hemnes.
My question to you is: How would you rate the build quality of IKEA Hemnes, especially in comparison to other IKEA series or similar furniture from other manufacturers?
I am searching for furniture that is visually appealing but also durable and sturdy in the long term. I am interested in the materials used, surface finish quality, edge and hardware durability, as well as overall stability.
Are there any user experiences from people who have had Hemnes furniture in their homes for several years? How has it held up over time, for example with drawers, doors, or visible signs of wear?
Thank you in advance for your feedback!

The build quality is really great to me, especially for the price IKEA charges.I agree – the value for money here is simply good.
Another point about pine wood: it is softer and therefore more prone to dents or marks. However, if this happens, minor damages can often be easily repaired with wood filler or sandpaper, which is not as simple with veneered furniture.
It should also be noted that while Ikea Hemnes mainly consists of solid wood, it also uses some screw connections and glued components, which can cause issues if assembled improperly.
If you take care during assembly, the lifespan can be extended. I also recommend regular inspection and tightening of the screws.
Overall, I find Hemnes to be a durable series with good everyday usability.

One point to consider is the surface finish: the painted surface can show scratches easily with heavy use. Thanks for the tip! I’m curious about how noticeable these scratches are in everyday life. Do they become so prominent over time that the overall appearance is clearly affected?

The edges are neatly finished, and the drawers usually run smoothly if the parts are assembled properly and not rushed. How difficult is it to assemble the Hemnes furniture in general? Is it enough to have some basic DIY skills, or is it necessary to have someone with more experience assist?
I want to avoid problems later with poorly fitting drawers or unstable joints.
I would appreciate any additional feedback.
