Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into IKEA furniture, specifically the Hemnes series. I am particularly interested in the build quality of IKEA Hemnes.

My question to you is: How would you rate the build quality of IKEA Hemnes, especially in comparison to other IKEA series or similar furniture from other manufacturers?

I am searching for furniture that is visually appealing but also durable and sturdy in the long term. I am interested in the materials used, surface finish quality, edge and hardware durability, as well as overall stability.

Are there any user experiences from people who have had Hemnes furniture in their homes for several years? How has it held up over time, for example with drawers, doors, or visible signs of wear?

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

The Hemnes series is characterized by solid wood components, mainly pine. This choice of material is generally positive for durability.

Compared to other IKEA series, which often use a lot of veneered particleboard, Hemnes tends to offer better quality and a more stable construction. This is especially noticeable in the drawers and doors due to the relatively substantial material thickness.

One point to consider, however, is the surface finish: the painted surface can show scratches easily under heavy use. Nevertheless, this can be well managed with proper care and careful handling.

Overall, I find Hemnes to offer good value for money within the IKEA range, especially if you prioritize a more robust wood quality.

After two years, the surface shows normal signs of use, but nothing dramatic.

Also, the connections are stable with no wobbly spots. The quality is average for IKEA, leaning towards above average. Assemble carefully, and everything fits properly.

Hello lucapeo,

I can understand your question well because I myself thought carefully before buying Hemnes.

Hemnes is one of the few series at IKEA that truly contains a lot of solid wood, which is generally a mark of quality. The sturdy construction also helps prevent the furniture from becoming unstable quickly. However, the wood is soft because pine is a softer wood – but that doesn’t mean the furniture is poorly made, only that it is more prone to dents and scratches.

Regarding the workmanship: the edges are neatly finished, and the drawers usually run smoothly if the parts are assembled correctly and not rushed. The fittings are typical IKEA and more functional, but they generally hold up well if not subjected to excessive stress.

In my opinion, it is important not to overload Hemnes furniture and to give it some care – then you can enjoy it for many years.

Once you get used to the weight and stability, I consider Hemnes a solid mid-range option that is well suited for normal household use.

Hemnes has significantly better craftsmanship compared to, for example, the Kallax series.
The furniture is mainly made of solid pine wood, which is sturdy and durable.
The surfaces are painted and require some maintenance.
If the furniture is not overloaded, it will last a long time.

Hey everyone! I absolutely love the Hemnes series! 😊 The build quality is really impressive for me, especially considering the price IKEA charges. You can really tell that real wood is used, not just particleboard or plastic panels.

Of course, small scratches or dents are possible since it’s pine – but somehow, that even gives the furniture a bit of character for me. The combination of durable hinges and well-fitting drawers works perfectly.

For anyone looking for sturdy and attractive home furnishings, Hemnes is a great choice! I’ve had my furniture for 3 years now and am very satisfied 🙂
