Hello my dear IKEA fans!
I recently moved to Hamburg about four weeks ago, and now I’m basically facing another move. I wanted to ask for your advice on how to set up my kitchen. I have a built-in oven and a sink. So far, everything looks quite basic and not very inviting. At first, I was considering a country-style look (OSLO) for around €700, but now I’m not so sure anymore 😀. I definitely don’t want a full fitted kitchen, but rather individual units or kitchen blocks!

IKEA offers these great kitchen blocks or islands where you can decide exactly how the kitchen should look. Has anyone bought these kitchen blocks and are satisfied with them, or do they lack stability? I’ve often heard that IKEA kitchen blocks become unstable and start wobbling after a while. Do you see it the same way, or does this happen with every kitchen block?

I’d appreciate your comments 🙂 Best regards

Who offers you a 25-year warranty on a kitchen? IKEA. Why would it become unstable after just a few years?

The floating platforms were probably not secured properly.

I don’t have one myself, but I’ve only heard good things about them so far.

Hi,

do you want to place the kitchen cabinets both against the wall AND inside the room?

Since the cabinets attached to the wall are also screwed together, there is hardly any risk of wobbling. The problem, of course, arises with wall cabinets hung on unsuitable walls using inadequate fixing materials, for example, single-layer drywall with standard anchors. In that case, it does not matter which kitchen supplier you choose.

Kitchen islands should ALMOST ALWAYS be secured to the floor. For this, Ikea offers UTBY legs at 16cm (6 inches) height that can be screwed to the floor. If this is not possible due to underfloor heating or landlord restrictions, you can also build a frame under the cabinets. Kitchen installers usually use leftover countertops for this, but sturdy boards (formwork boards) from a hardware store work just as well.

Otherwise, as already mentioned, no supplier other than Ikea offers a 25-year warranty. They guarantee that your kitchen will last 25 years.

Best regards,

Na.
