Hello everyone, I recently bought an IKEA Brimnes dresser and would like to partially remove the drawers to use the storage space more flexibly or to clean them more easily when needed. My question is: How easily can the drawers of the Brimnes series actually be removed? I have read that some IKEA drawers can be taken out simply by lifting them, but with the Brimnes I am unsure if there are any special mechanisms to watch out for or if tools are required. Are there any tips that could make removing the drawers easier? Looking forward to your experiences and advice.

The drawers are actually just hung on the sliding rails. Simply pull them out completely, then lift slightly, and they come free. No tools are needed.

These retaining tabs must then either be gently pressed against spring tension or lifted — depending on the model year — and then the drawer can be fully removed.

Exactly! I have the Brimnes with the newer mechanisms here, and that’s really how it works. The small mechanisms make the difference and you can feel the resistance, but if you’re brave enough, it works perfectly. So don’t worry, it’s not dangerous or anything like that.

Remove all items from the drawer before dismantling.

Thanks for this important tip! I actually overlooked completely emptying the drawer – that makes sense, as the weight could otherwise make dismantling more difficult. Also, I would like to ask: Are there any differences in dismantling between the various widths of the Brimnes dressers, for example between the 2-drawer and 3-drawer versions? Or is the mechanism the same for all? I want to avoid damaging anything by using the same instructions on different models.
