Hello everyone, I recently bought an IKEA Brimnes dresser and would like to partially remove the drawers to use the storage space more flexibly or to clean them more easily when needed. My question is: How easily can the drawers of the Brimnes series actually be removed? I have read that some IKEA drawers can be taken out simply by lifting them, but with the Brimnes I am unsure if there are any special mechanisms to watch out for or if tools are required. Are there any tips that could make removing the drawers easier? Looking forward to your experiences and advice.

Hey, removing the Brimnes drawers is really straightforward! 🙂 You just need to know how it works. Most Brimnes drawers have a simple mechanism that lets you pull them out almost like a sliding tray. Just pull the drawer all the way out, then gently lift or push it down slightly, depending on how the rails are designed, and you can easily take the drawer out! I’ve done this many times and it always works perfectly. If it sticks, you can use a small screwdriver on the rails to help, but usually that’s not necessary. Just give it a try—you can do it!

Interesting thread! Honestly, I think it’s a bit exaggerated to debate how easy or difficult it is to remove the Brimnes drawers. IKEA designs furniture with quick, cost-effective assembly solutions, which naturally means everything fits securely enough for a certain period but isn’t particularly durable or extremely easy to modify. You can expect the drawers to come out, but if you remove and reinstall them too often, the material tends to wear out quickly. So, anyone who frequently screws and unscrews will find this frustrating! A somewhat more robust or modular solution would often be better, even though IKEA targets the mainstream market. A bit more respect for the assembly instructions and a minimalist set of tools should also be part of the process.

Pull out the drawers on the Brimnes. Then lift slightly from the back and remove. No tools are required.

Here is a brief step-by-step guide for removing the IKEA Brimnes drawers:

- Pull the drawer out completely until it stops at the built-in stop.
- At the back of the drawer, you will find small plastic or metal tabs on the sides that rest on the runners.
- Gently press or lift these tabs, usually upwards or sideways, to release them from the runner profile.
- While the drawer is open, carefully pull it forward using a levering motion to remove it.

Important: Do not use excessive force; always pay attention to the feeling that the mechanisms are disengaging. If it feels very stiff, check whether the furniture is tilting or the runners are bent. Tip: Remove all contents from the drawer before removing it. Summary: The drawers can be removed easily without tools, but with controlled handling.

Hello rumar67, I have the Brimnes dresser here and can say that removing the drawers is actually quite simple. The key is to pull the drawer out completely until it rests on the retaining tabs. These retaining tabs then need to be either gently pressed down or lifted—depending on the model year—and then the drawer can be fully removed. If you try to apply too much force or don’t pull the drawer out all the way, it can get stuck or damaged. So, very important: proceed patiently, and it will work smoothly!
