Hello everyone,
I am planning to assemble an Ikea Pax sliding door wardrobe and was wondering: How easy or difficult is it to install the sliding doors?
I am especially interested in how complex it is to fit the track rails and precisely adjust the doors, as the instructions sometimes seem a bit vague.
Are there any common pitfalls to be aware of beforehand? How well do all the parts fit together if you don’t have any carpentry experience?
I want to have a clear understanding of what to expect, so that the wardrobe works properly in the end and the doors don’t end up misaligned.
Looking forward to your experiences and tips!

Hello Fisolen,
I have installed several PAX sliding doors, and overall the installation is quite manageable if done carefully and with enough time.
The tracks are well made, but the installation requires a good deal of precision. Particularly important is:
- Mounting the tracks perfectly level, otherwise the doors may stick or be difficult to slide.
- Carefully using the supplied adjustment screws on the doors during alignment.
The instructions are detailed, but especially when aligning the doors, it’s worth reading the steps thoroughly and following them closely.
One common challenge is that the doors are heavy and it’s best to work with two people, especially when hanging them on the tracks.
With some craftsmanship and patience, however, it’s not a difficult task.

Hey Fisolen!
I find installing the PAX sliding doors really interesting, and it’s actually fun once you get the hang of it! 👍
Absolutely! Precision is key, but don’t worry – there’s always a solution if something gets tricky! I would definitely recommend laying everything out on the floor before installation to see how everything fits.
And yes, the doors are heavy, so take your time – this also gives you a chance to pause and, if needed, make adjustments. From my experience: working patiently leads to a very satisfying result 😄
If you run into any problems, just reach out here – together we’ll get it done!

Interesting question, Fisolen. I’d like to take a slightly critical approach here: How exactly do you define “simple”?
For someone with basic DIY skills, the assembly should be manageable, no doubt. But the problem often is that IKEA instructions are so standardized that they assume certain details or can be hard to understand.
That’s exactly it – the adjustment is crucial and can be very frustrating if, for example, the rails are not mounted perfectly straight or the floor is uneven.
In addition, it’s often overlooked that PAX systems come in different sizes and sometimes require custom modifications.
My advice: Plan for extra time and tighten screws slowly and carefully so adjustments remain possible. “Simple” is relative – there’s a big difference between zero experience and practical application.

Hello everyone,
I find this discussion very helpful because I am also considering getting a PAX sliding door wardrobe.
What makes me a bit nervous is the fear of struggling with the fine adjustment of the doors.
That reassures me somewhat. I always find it difficult to stay patient when something doesn’t fit right away.
Maybe it would be helpful if more experienced users could explain in detail which tools are useful and which steps should definitely be checked multiple times.
And how do you handle it if someone isn’t very skilled at DIY? Are there any tips to make more complex tasks, like aligning the sliding rails, easier?
Looking forward to your opinions and advice!
