Hello everyone, I am planning a move soon and I own some Ikea Brimnes furniture, mainly wardrobes and dressers. I would like to know how easy it is to disassemble this furniture. Specifically, it is important for me to find out whether common household tools are sufficient, how time-consuming the disassembly process is, if there are any particularly delicate parts to watch out for, and whether reassembling the furniture at the new location is similarly easy or more complicated. Has anyone had experience with taking down and handling this furniture during a move? Thanks in advance for any tips or experiences!

From your experience, are there issues with large panels being too heavy to handle during disassembly? Or is the material processed in a way that makes the parts easy to hold?

To add:

- Brimnes uses melamine-coated particle boards that are sturdy yet relatively lightweight.
- This means the panels are bulky but not too heavy to carry.
- It is important to avoid point loads that can cause chipping.

My advice: Use moving blankets or cloths under the panels while carrying them to prevent moisture, dirt, or small scratches. Follow the correct order during disassembly to make even large parts manageable.

I recently picked up and disassembled a Brimnes wardrobe for transport. Here are a few observations:

- The supplied screws can be loosened quickly with some practice.
- Some connections use dowels with springs, which must not be lost.
- The back panels are actually very thin, so caution is needed, especially when moving the wardrobe during a relocation.

I would recommend labeling each part during disassembly with a short note, for example, “left side panel bottom” or something similar, to make reassembly easier later.

Have you encountered any wardrobes where glued joints were used, or is everything only fitted and screwed together in your experience?

Great that you did it that way! It's definitely the best approach if you want to be on the safe side.

Regarding your question: As far as I know, Brimnes components are not glued together; the furniture is usually assembled with screws, dowels, and cam lock fasteners. The design allows for disassembly and reassembly without any leftover glue residue.

Good timing, by the way—that shows how quickly you can get comfortable with taking it apart. But don’t underestimate the process—keeping things organized while screwing means less headache later!

As a rule, Ikea cabinet models, especially Brimnes, are not glued to make assembly and disassembly easier. If there are glued joints, this may indicate repairs or modifications. For moves, it is important to pay attention to screw connections and dowels and avoid using force to protect the material.

Here are some final tips for disassembling Brimnes furniture when moving:

- Document at the disassembly site: Taking photos of each section helps greatly with reassembly later.
- Sorting: Collect screws, dowels, and hardware in small containers and label them.
- Be careful when removing the back panels, as the thin fiberboard can tear easily.
- When carrying large panels, protect the edges to prevent chipping.

If you plan to disassemble the furniture frequently, it might be worth investing in a cordless drill with torque control – it makes the work much easier and prevents over-tightening.

Finally, a question: Are you planning to fully reassemble the furniture, or are you also considering alternatives that might be easier to transport?
