Hello everyone, I recently purchased an IKEA Brimnes furniture piece and am now working on properly securing it to the wall. My main question is: How exactly does the wall mounting for IKEA BRIMNES work?

I know it is important to securely attach the furniture to the wall, but the included instructions seem a bit brief. I am especially interested in details about the fasteners used, which type of anchors are suitable depending on the wall type, and how to correctly fix the mounting strip to both the furniture and the wall to ensure the piece remains stable.

Has anyone had experience with the installation and can explain what to pay particular attention to so that the mounting holds securely over time? Thanks in advance!

Are there special anchors or methods in this case?

Definitely: yes! For drywall with metal studs, you need:
- metal drywall anchors that grip inside the cavity and on the metal
- a good detector for metal studs

Practical tips:
- Use a drill with the right bit to make a clean hole that isn’t too large.
- Ideally, fasten the mounting strip to two metal studs, not just one spot.

whether the furniture is secured only by the mounting strip, or if additional measures like brackets or other supports are advisable

The mounting strip is the intended IKEA system, but with drywall I definitely recommend additional brackets for extra security.

A final check after installation to ensure everything is firmly secured and the furniture doesn’t wobble is essential.

I can totally understand your uncertainty. Especially when you’re attaching a piece of furniture to the wall for the first time, it’s not an easy task—especially with drywall.

Don’t stress too much—if you take your time and use the right materials, it will work out well. Remember: it’s better to double-check everything, measure carefully, and make sure all screws are properly anchored.

If you’re unsure whether your anchors or mounting are correct, it’s a good idea to get advice or quickly ask someone with experience for help before the furniture is set up—this will give you more confidence and help prevent damage or accidents.

Trust your instincts, but also make use of the tips from this forum—every little bit of advice can be helpful.

I would like to add that when mounting the IKEA Brimnes to the wall, besides choosing the correct wall plugs and positioning, the weight of the furniture and how it will be used also play an important role.

The BRIMNES is not ultra-lightweight, but it’s also not very heavy – still, a secure mounting is essential, especially if there are children in the household.

- Always check whether the mounting bracket and screws are suitable for the load (IKEA often specifies minimum wall plug sizes in the manual).
- For drywall, make sure the screws are fixed into the metal studs, not just the plasterboard.
- Immediately after installation, test the furniture to ensure it does not move at all.

Tip: If you have doubts after mounting, you can additionally stabilize the furniture by using small edge protectors or bumpers against the wall, without affecting the structure.

In general, careful wall mounting is worthwhile for safety and durability.
