Hello everyone, I am currently considering retrofitting soft-close functionality to my existing IKEA Platsa cabinet doors. I have the classic version without damping and am wondering how the retrofitting process works exactly. What parts are needed, where are the dampers installed, and are there any special considerations during the retrofit, such as specific screws or spacing? Additionally, I would like to know if adding soft-close to Platsa doors is generally straightforward or if there are any limitations. Who has practical experience and can explain the process step by step? Thank you in advance!
Hello Davedeo, I found the retrofit process really straightforward – soft-close definitely makes sense for Platsa! A little tip: if you put some silicone oil on the screws while screwing them in, everything goes a bit smoother and the doors won’t creak later. Also, the soft-close’s gentle sound is just nice! Good luck and let us know how it goes?
Great, thanks to everyone for the tips and advice! I will now proceed with the original soft-close retrofit kit from IKEA and take your suggestions on the precise positioning of the dampers, drilling, and load bearing into account. I’ll get back to you once I’ve made some progress or if any questions come up. Thanks again, this is really helpful!
