Hello everyone, I am planning to disassemble my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets in order to modify them and possibly reinstall them in a different location. Could someone please explain the best way to take them apart? It is important for me to know which tools are needed, how to safely remove the doors, drawers, and especially the wall mounts without causing damage. Are there any special procedures or particular points to watch out for to ensure everything can be reassembled securely later? Thanks in advance for any helpful tips and experiences!

A tip from me: Before starting the disassembly, make sure to position the drawers and doors in the open cabinet before removing any screws. The hinges and drawer slides have levers and clips that need to be handled carefully. If you apply too much force, these mechanisms can break.
I usually found the brackets at the top of the cabinet side panels, just under the countertop. They are flat, silver-colored, and screwed to the wall. This is Ikea standard. Sometimes a small mirror helps to see underneath better. Important: Remove all shelves and loose parts before dismantling, otherwise it will be very difficult.
Good luck!

Oh, the good old Metod disassembly – a bit of a challenge, but with a little organization, it’s not rocket science! 😄
My advice would be: take your time and work step by step. A good cordless screwdriver is a real helper during the job.
Short and sweet, but true! I’ve always done it by first taking off the doors and drawers before handling the tools. It gives you more room to move and lets you work more comfortably.
In the end, you can decide whether to carefully pack everything or just quickly dispose of it 😉.

Remove the door, pull out the drawers, loosen the screws on the sides, unscrew the wall mounting.

Dismantling Metod is really fun once you get the hang of it! 😃 Just important: Don’t rush and always watch out for screws and clips.
That’s the key! Fortunately, the connections in Metod are quite consistent.
I think it’s a bit like a puzzle and really enjoyable! If you have any more questions, just reach out – we’ll figure it out together!

For the cabinet carcass, loosen the screws that connect the individual modules, typically Phillips screws on the sides.

Hey Meoke46, last year I completely dismantled and rebuilt a kitchen – Ikea Metod is really easy to take apart! 🙂
A small tip: The drawer slides can be tricky for some because of their small release levers, so it can be a bit fiddly. But with a good screwdriver and some patience, it works great!
That’s exactly right! Once you get the first brackets undone, the rest usually comes apart on its own. Good luck, and always make sure to follow the correct order when unscrewing so nothing gets stuck!
