Hello everyone, I am planning to buy some IKEA Brimnes furniture, mainly dressers and bed frames. Since these items are quite bulky and sometimes heavy, I would like to know how to transport Brimnes furniture safely—both in a personal vehicle and when using a rental car or moving truck. What are your experiences with securing the items properly, protecting them from scratches, and handling them during loading and unloading? Are there any special tools or techniques that have proven effective in preventing damage or accidents? I look forward to any helpful tips or personal experiences!

Hello Suriron, this is a great topic! 😀 I’ve personally transported Brimnes dressers several times, and here’s what has always worked well for me:
- Wrap the furniture thoroughly with blankets or bubble wrap to protect the surface from scratches
- When loading, make sure to keep the piece flat—ideally transport it lying down to prevent warping
- Ratchet straps or tie-down straps are invaluable; don’t just let them lie around, but tighten them firmly
- If your vehicle has a flatbed: non-slip mats help keep everything from shifting
It may sound like a lot of effort, but this way everything arrives safely and makes moving much less stressful! 😊

If possible, disassemble Brimnes furniture. Then transport it flat and padded. Always secure with ratchet straps to prevent shifting.

For the safe transportation of IKEA Brimnes furniture, I recommend the following:

- Disassemble the furniture as much as possible, since individual parts are easier and safer to store.
- Keep all screws in labeled bags to simplify reassembly later.
- Use packing materials such as furniture blankets, foam, or bubble wrap to prevent scratches.
- Transport the pieces lying down during loading, as upright items are more likely to tip over or break.
- Secure the load with high-quality ratchet straps at as many points as possible, ideally attaching to the tailgate or anchor points in the vehicle.
- Placing a non-slip mat in the cargo area helps prevent shifting during sudden braking.
- Ensure that furniture parts do not come into direct contact with hard surfaces and are adequately cushioned.

These measures effectively minimize the risk of mechanical damage.

Thanks for the tip! Is there anything specific to watch out for with ratchet straps? Are there models that are especially suitable for Brimnes furniture? And how tight can the straps be without damaging the wood?

Suriron, it is important to find a balance between tightening securely and avoiding excessive pressure.
- Straps with wide webbing (about 25-50 mm (1-2 inches)) distribute pressure better and are suitable
- Use edge protectors where the strap touches the wood to prevent pressure marks or cracks
- Tighten the straps just enough to prevent any movement, but not so much that the wood deforms
- Continuously check during transport that the straps remain secure
I always use these wide tie-down straps with additional fabric protection for my Brimnes dresser – they work great!
