lili65Hello everyone,
I have some Ikea Hemnes shelves at home, and I’ve noticed that they sometimes feel a bit unstable or wobble slightly, especially when they can’t be fixed to the wall. I am now looking for ways to make these shelves more stable without having to use complicated tools like drills or specialized machines.
Are there any practical tips or simple tricks to make the shelves safer and firmer? Ideally, I’m looking for solutions that work with common household items and are not too difficult, since I don’t have much DIY experience.
I’m really looking forward to your advice and experiences!

If you prefer not to use screws or drills, you can secure the shelves to the wall with metal brackets. Alternatively, strong double-sided mounting tape or special clamps that are easy to attach can also be helpful. Sometimes, simply placing non-slip rubber pads under the feet is enough to improve stability.

I personally used small wooden wedges on my Hemnes shelves, placing them at the back of the side panels. This applies a slight pressure on the bottom panel and immediately gives a more secure feeling. 😄
Sometimes it’s the simple things that make a big difference!

What has worked well for me is securing the back panel of the Hemnes shelf a bit more firmly by carefully tapping in small nails (using a hammer and a gentle hand). This only requires a hammer, which most households probably already have, and it makes the shelf much more stable.
If that feels like too much, furniture grippers that you stick under the feet are also a good option, as they greatly reduce wobbling.

I would recommend first thoroughly checking the location and, if necessary, stabilizing the floor with non-slip mats. Then, tightening the shelves and adding small spacers can mechanically improve stability without needing larger tools.
Simple adjustments like these are often underestimated, especially with Ikea furniture.
