Hello everyone, I recently noticed that one of the edges on one of my Billy shelves is damaged – it has slight splits in several spots and the veneer is peeling off. Since I don’t want to replace the entire shelf, I’m looking for a practical way to restore the edge to a decent condition without it being too noticeable.
Does anyone have experience with repairs like this? Specifically, I’m interested in which tools and materials are best suited for fixing the veneer or edge, and if there are any tips to achieve a seamless result.

Hello everyone, I would like to add a few tips based on my own repair attempts.
1. Preparation: It is important to thoroughly clean the damaged area from dust and old glue residues. This can be done well with a fine spatula and some isopropanol.
2. Adhesive choice: Wood glue (PVAC) works well, but for flexible edges, contact adhesive may be more suitable as it cures faster and adheres better to plastics.
3. Clamping: A clamp or specially shaped clips help to press the glue properly without deforming the surface.
4. Sanding: Use very fine sandpaper followed by a cotton cloth or polishing pad to achieve the smoothest possible surface.
5. Finishing: Besides repair wax, appropriate touch-up pens or furniture markers also work well.
I hope these tips complement the existing advice and assist with repairing the Billy edge.
