Hello everyone, I am looking for reliable advice and proven methods on how to properly care for Ikea Brimnes furniture fronts without damaging the surfaces through incorrect cleaning or unsuitable maintenance products. The BRIMNES fronts are known to be melamine-coated, which certainly requires specific cleaning considerations. I am especially interested in tips on product selection, the recommended frequency of care, and the best practices to avoid scratches or dull spots. Who has experience with this and can help create a clear, practical guide? Thanks in advance!

Adding to the very good tips so far: After cleaning, the surface should be completely dried, especially around the edges. Melamine coatings cannot tolerate moisture over time, as this can cause the underlying substrate to swell. Avoid using waxes, oils, or silicone-based polishes. These can leave unpleasant residues on the surface and make future cleaning more difficult. For removing fingerprints, wiping with a dry microfiber cloth has proven effective.

Never clean with harsh cleaners or abrasive sponges. Melamine can only tolerate mild cleaners and soft cloths. Otherwise, it will eventually show visible damage.

Care products like furniture polish or wax are usually unnecessary on melamine-coated surfaces and can leave residues.

That makes sense to me, thanks. Regarding frequency: In your experience, how often should the fronts be cleaned? It would be helpful to have a clear routine, for example, dusting or light cleaning weekly and a more thorough damp cleaning monthly. Are there any best practices to optimize durability?

This division matches my exact practice. Weekly, I dust lightly using a dry microfiber cloth. Monthly, I perform a somewhat more thorough cleaning with lukewarm water and a very mild dish soap. It is important that the cloth is not too wet, only damp. This way, you avoid unnecessary moisture exposure and keep the surface in optimal condition long-term. Excessive cleaning, especially with too much water, leads to problems at the edges over time.
