ᐅ How do you properly install clothes rods in a Pax wardrobe?

Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of securely installing a clothes rail inside the Pax wardrobe from Ikea. Specifically, I want to know the best way to mount the clothes rail so that it can reliably hold heavy clothing without slipping or coming loose over time. So far, I have simply placed the rail into the holes provided on the sides, but that does not seem secure enough to me. Are there any special mounting tips or additional brackets that can be used? Maybe also advice on load capacity and which screws or wall plugs are most suitable? Thank you very much for your help!

Very helpful, thank you. I have a very deep Pax tube here (60 cm depth (24 inches)) and the rod is about 1.80 m long (5 ft 11 in). Is it enough to install an additional bracket just in the middle, or should I rather add two more support points? Are there any experience-based guidelines on how much the rod might sag if there are not enough supports?

For a rod length of 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in), a central support bracket is generally required. It should be installed exactly in the middle to ensure even load distribution. If the closet rod is made of metal with a comparatively thin wall thickness, our experience shows that using only one support bracket can lead to bending under heavier loads. For particularly heavy loads, it can be helpful to install additional supports further out. This can significantly increase stability, but it is not absolutely necessary if the clothing is not too heavy.

Exactly, I agree. That is the only way to prevent bending with rods of this length.

If you don’t want to install too many brackets, use a thicker closet rod. The more robust models, usually 1.80 meters (5 feet 11 inches) long, can often support the weight with just two brackets without sagging.

Thanks, good tip. Is there any official recommendation from Ikea or practical experience regarding the ideal thickness for rails over longer spans? I ask because the original rails sometimes seem quite thin and prone to bending.
