TuranaHello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of securely packing and transporting some IKEA Brimnes furniture for a move. My question is: What is the best way to pack the individual pieces from the Brimnes series to prevent scratches or other damage during transport? I am especially interested in tips for protecting the surfaces, the corners, and, of course, how to best secure the often pre-assembled parts. Experiences with packing materials and handling potentially disassembled parts would also be very helpful. Thanks in advance for your advice!
Hello Turana, I completely understand your concerns about the Brimnes furniture – the surfaces are quite delicate. What helped me was first thoroughly cleaning everything to remove any dirt that could cause scratches. Then, I covered everything well, for example with bubble wrap or blankets that are not too thick, so the furniture could still fit well into the moving boxes. I especially wrapped the edges of the shelves and drawers with foam edge protectors. This provides some cushioning against impacts. Disassembling often adds security when possible, especially doors or larger back panels. But if screws are missing, it can become unstable quickly – so be sure to label everything clearly and keep screws stored separately. I was also quite unsure if everything would hold, but with the right preparation, it went very smoothly. Good luck!

Foam edge protectors are especially suitable for this. Doors and drawers should be secured to prevent them from opening unintentionally—either use tape or lock them if possible. Additionally, I recommend using carrying handles and transporting the furniture as vertically as possible to avoid pressure marks. To protect the back panel, cardboard sheets placed between the furniture and the loading surface can be helpful. The back panel is often the first part to tear when the item shifts during transport.

For doors and drawers, they should be secured to prevent accidental opening—either use tape or lock them if locks are available. That’s exactly what I did, and it really saved me a lot of stress. Especially with a bumpy moving truck, you have to expect jolts, and nothing is more annoying than doors suddenly swinging open. Make sure to fix the tape well, but be careful so that no residue remains.
Hello Turana! To answer your question in detail: When packing IKEA Brimnes furniture, it is important to focus on two main factors: surface protection and stability during transport. I recommend the following steps: - Carefully disassemble the furniture if possible (remove drawers and doors). - Wrap the individual parts with bubble wrap, paying extra attention to edges and corners – foam strips or thick blankets, in addition to foam rubber, are also suitable for this purpose. - Collect screws and fasteners in labeled bags and keep them in a safe place. - Store the furniture pieces upright during loading and cushion them well to avoid pressure points. - To protect the surface, I usually place packing paper between the furniture and the protective wrap so the wrap does not stick to or damage the melamine coating. I have moved several times with Brimnes furniture, and this method has proven very effective. If you have to transport the furniture assembled, be sure to secure the parts firmly to prevent movement using straps. I hope this helps!
