Hello everyone,

I am currently working on optimizing room layouts using PAX furniture, as I want to make better use of the space in my home. The challenge with PAX is often that while it allows very flexible planning, it’s easy to lose track of how to get the best results due to the modular elements.

I am specifically interested in how you organize your room layouts with PAX to make the most functional and aesthetically pleasing use of the available space.

- How do you balance the combination of open and closed components?
- What tips do you have for organizing storage, especially in smaller rooms?
- Do you use interior fittings (drawers, baskets, hanging rods) intentionally, and if so, how?
- How do you plan the integration of PAX furniture into different room sizes and shapes?

I look forward to your experiences—feel free to share examples or advice on what has proven particularly helpful for you.

Hey renna56,

PAX is truly a dream, but its incredible flexibility can definitely make you think twice 😅.

What worked really well for me was choosing the cabinet size based on the room height, to make the most of the space up to the ceiling – this saves a lot of room!

- For small rooms, I find the mix of open shelves and doors brilliant, as it doesn’t feel so bulky and you can create plenty of storage space in a small area.
- Interior fittings like drawers and pull-out baskets are incredibly helpful for staying organized – everything is easy to reach and nothing gathers dust at the back.

My tip: take your time when planning and try using the IKEA planning tools. They give a good idea of how the furniture will look in the room. And don’t be afraid to combine closed and open sections – both have their purpose!

Good luck with your project! 😊

I would like to add: If you want to use PAX really efficiently, it is crucial to measure the space accurately beforehand and clearly define its purpose.

- Carefully consider what you want to store and plan the layout accordingly.
- Clothes rails are excellent for hanging garments, while small drawers are ideal for accessories or smaller textiles.

In small rooms, I recommend also thinking about seldom-used corners or niches – PAX is modular enough that you can often customize narrower or shorter units to fill these spaces.

A slight variation in height through built-in lighting or decorative fronts also creates an appealing look and helps maintain an organized overview.

Overall: quality over quantity – plan thoughtfully, otherwise even the best furniture can turn into a plywood monstrosity.

For planning the room layout with PAX, I recommend a systematic approach that combines technical details and practical considerations.

First, precise measurement of the room is essential. You should:
- Accurately note ceiling height, windows, radiators, and door swings
- Allow at least 60 cm (24 inches) of clearance in front of the cabinet fronts for opening

Next, clearly define your storage needs:
- Do I need more hanging space or shelving?
- Are specific interior fittings like shelves, soft-close drawers, or shoe organizers important?
- How important is the visual separation between concealed and open storage?

Keep in mind that PAX systems come in different depths (35 cm and 58 cm [14 inches and 23 inches]). In smaller rooms, the narrower depth often provides sufficient storage and appears less bulky.

Exactly, interior fittings deserve even more attention: with adjustable inserts, you can divide the space into different zones according to your needs—this improves visibility and makes accessing stored items much easier.

Finally, I recommend using digital planning tools—the PAX planner or similar software allows you to simulate the furniture in the room. This helps better judge spatial proportions and avoid costly mistakes.

Do you have any specific limitations or unique features in your room that need to be considered? Such details are important to provide more precise advice.

I really appreciate that you’re providing such structured tips here, because the flexibility of PAX can sometimes be quite overwhelming.

This personally helped me a lot. After rearranging my room, I suddenly had a corner that I rarely used, but with a narrow PAX unit, I was able to create additional storage space that is visually less prominent.

For me, it was also emotionally important to organize the wardrobe with personal items and memories in a way that brings joy every time I take something out. Because even if the storage is adequate, if the furniture piece is visually too dominant or the setup is frustrating, you tend to avoid using it.

That’s why I would recommend designing the wardrobe to reflect your style – perhaps with color accents on the handles or different door fronts. This way, the room layout becomes not only functional but also a personal cozy atmosphere.
