Hello everyone,
I have several IKEA Brimnes furniture pieces in my apartment, especially the dressers and the TV stand. Since these items are mostly made of coated particleboard, I’m wondering how to clean them gently and ensure they last a long time.
It’s important to me that the surfaces are not damaged or loosened, for example by using overly harsh cleaning products or cleaning with too much water, as Brimnes seems quite sensitive. I’m also interested in whether there are specific recommendations for the best household cleaning methods or if it’s better to use products from furniture stores.
What are your experiences with cleaning the BRIMNES series?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

For efficient and gentle cleaning of IKEA BRIMNES furniture, I recommend the following:
- Use a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth. This effectively removes dust and dirt without causing scratches.
- Avoid strongly alkaline or abrasive cleaning agents. Mild soap solutions or special cleaners designed for plastic or melamine surfaces are preferable.
- Do not spray liquid cleaners directly onto the furniture; always apply them to the cloth first.
- It is advisable to dry the surface with a separate, dry cloth to prevent any moisture residue.
Home remedies like adding a splash of vinegar to water are possible but should be used sparingly, as excessive acidity can damage the surface.
In general, caring for BRIMNES furniture is similar to other laminated or foil-coated furniture. Regular, gentle cleaning helps maintain the appearance and prevents damage.

I would also add that abrasive sponges or cloths should definitely be avoided, as they can cause dull spots or small scratches after a short time.
If there are stubborn stains, sometimes a paste made from water and baking soda can help. Apply it gently with a soft cloth, then wipe thoroughly and dry to avoid any residue.
Another precaution is to avoid using liquids or cloths that are too hot, as heat can also damage the laminate and particleboard.

Just don’t use too much water, so it doesn’t soak into the pores.
And with a wink: The BRIMNES knows when it’s well cared for and rewards you with long-lasting durability! 😉
