Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of preparing my move, during which I need to transport my Malm furniture from IKEA. The main concerns are handling the drawer units, disassembling the furniture pieces, and protecting them from damage. My question is: What is the best way to manage Malm furniture during a move to minimize both the effort of assembly and disassembly as well as protecting the furniture itself? Are there any specific techniques or helpful tips to transport the furniture as scratch-free and safely as possible? I’m looking forward to your experiences and practical advice!

1. Completely empty and remove drawers
2. Unscrew handles or knobs and label them
3. Disassemble furniture pieces and secure connecting elements
4. Store screws and dowels in clearly labeled containers
5. Protect individual parts with blankets or bubble wrap
6. Secure the items as firmly as possible during transport
7. Create and have ready instructions for reassembly
These steps help reduce losses and ensure a quick rebuild.
Nothing to add to that.

Always secure screws carefully – it takes a bit of time, [...] but it pays off massively

One option would be to transport the furniture tightly packed with protective covers and padding as much as possible, without fully disassembling it.That’s a good point. Sometimes the effort involved in disassembly is underestimated. However, with Malm furniture, the joints are unfortunately not very sturdy, and I have personally experienced screws loosening after transport without disassembly. Still, thanks for this perspective—it shows you can also be pragmatic.
