Hello everyone, some time ago I bought a few pieces of furniture from the Ikea Brimnes series, mainly dressers and cabinets with a white, smooth surface. Now I’m wondering which methods or cleaning products are best suited to thoroughly and gently clean the surface of these furniture items without causing dullness or damage. I’ve read that some harsh cleaners can harm the finish, while very mild products might not remove dirt effectively. What experiences have you had with this, and what do you recommend for regular maintenance? Thanks in advance for your helpful tips and advice!

I have an additional question: For everyday dirt, mild cleaners seem sufficient, but how do you deal with particularly greasy stains, for example, where children often rest their hands or where painted hands smear faces? Should stronger cleaning agents really be used, or is there a gentler method? Which cleaning liquids or home remedies have proven especially effective in these cases?
For greasy stains on melamine surfaces, I recommend starting with a mild detergent and warm water. If that is not enough, a highly diluted spirit or alcohol-based cleaner can be used by applying it to a soft cloth, NOT sprayed directly onto the surface. Afterwards, the surface should be wiped down with clear water and thoroughly dried. Be careful not to use abrasive cleaners or acidic products, as these can damage the coating.

For regular everyday dirt, mild cleaning agents are usually enough, but how do you deal with especially greasy stains? Interesting question. By the way, I think most Brimnes surfaces are not really designed for heavy use. Especially the white ones show wear and stains quite quickly. My advice: honestly, you can clean more aggressively if you accept that the furniture won’t last forever. It’s better to clean gently on a regular basis than to risk worse stains later on. Still, make sure to ventilate well and keep the surface dry.
