Hello everyone, I am planning to attach towel holders or simple hooks to my IKEA Pax doors to increase their functionality. Since the doors have a thin wooden surface covered with a white foil, I am unsure how to mount the holders and hooks without causing damage. Is it possible to use screws directly, or are there alternatives like adhesive or magnetic mounts that hold reliably? Are there any specific tips or experiences for attaching things to Pax doors, especially regarding stability and preserving the door surface? I look forward to your practical recommendations and advice on what to watch out for so that the mounting does not fall off after a short time or damage the door.

It is best to use small screws with wall anchors if the door is thick enough. Otherwise, adhesive hooks are a good option; they hold well but should not be loaded with too much weight.

I would recommend using self-adhesive hooks, especially those with a nano adhesive layer. They hold surprisingly well on smooth surfaces like those found in Pax.

IKEA Pax doors are usually made with a thin MDF or particleboard core and a foil coating. Screws can damage the surface and provide only limited durability if the panel is hollow or very thin inside. For a secure installation of towel holders, I recommend:

- Using special, stronger adhesive systems (e.g., 3M tape) designed for smooth surfaces.
- Alternatively, small, flat screw anchors if the door thickness allows.
- Before drilling, check whether the door has enough clearance to minimize piercing the foil.

If you want to use screws, pre-drill and, if possible, use appropriate anchors to distribute the load and prevent the door from cracking.

Absolutely, that’s what I was concerned about since the doors are only about 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) thick and have a laminate finish. I want to avoid drilling as much as possible to preserve the appearance. Are there adhesive solutions that remain reliable even in humid areas like bathrooms? Or maybe a solution with magnets, if a metal plate is installed on the inside?

I experimented a bit with adhesive hooks on the PAX – honestly, they usually only hold for a short time when exposed to moisture before falling off. 😅 My tip: magnets work great if you attach a narrow metal strip inside (preferably with 3M adhesive tape). Then you can place magnetic hooks on the outside without drilling any holes, keeping the door clean. A real magnet fan trick that keeps the bathroom dry and allows for flexible rearranging! 🍃
