Hello everyone,

I am considering using some furniture from the IKEA Brimnes series in my office but am unsure how to utilize it most effectively. Specifically, I am interested in how to arrange the different elements—such as the desk, cabinets, and shelves—in a way that maximizes storage space while creating a comfortable working environment.

Additionally, it would be great if someone could share tips on making the best use of the built-in compartments and, if applicable, how to combine them with other furniture. I value functionality but also an appealing design that supports productivity.

What are your experiences with Brimnes furniture in daily office use, and have you encountered any challenges? I look forward to constructive suggestions!

I would place the Brimnes desk against a wall to avoid blocking the room. The cabinets are well suited for storing file folders; it’s best to organize the items by category. Use the open compartments only for frequently used items.

Hello ertanno,

In my view, your project can be structured in several steps, and I recommend starting with an assessment of your office space size and your workflows. The Brimnes series is characterized by a rather compact, clear design and optimized storage, which is particularly advantageous in small to medium-sized offices.

From a technical perspective, I suggest the following:

- Desk: Use the desk surface efficiently – Brimnes desks usually have integrated drawers that you should allocate for less frequently used items. It is important to maintain a clear separation between the work surface and storage.

- Cabinet systems: Position the Brimnes cabinets against a wall or inside a niche to make the most of your space. The cabinets feature adjustable shelves – use this flexibility to organize binders, equipment, and books effectively.

- Compartments and shelves: The open compartments are ideal for accessories or tools you use often; closed compartments are suitable for confidential or seldom-used items.

- Cable management: Make sure to keep the back of the furniture clear for cable routing. Although Brimnes does not have specific cable channels, you can manage cables with clips and ties.

A potential challenge is the limited flexibility of the furniture shapes – here, you should take precise measurements and measure your room carefully.

I would be interested to know: How large is your office and what specific work processes take place there?

Thank you for the detailed response! My office is about 15 square meters (160 square feet), mainly a home office with two to three workstations that I want to use flexibly depending on the needs. The work involves a lot of computer work, occasional document review meetings, and brief phone calls. Additionally, a few folders and office supplies need to be stored neatly.

I have some wall space available but want to avoid making the room feel cramped or cluttered. Flexibility in use and clear organization are important to me.

In a 15-square-meter (160-square-foot) office, the IKEA Brimnes series can be very practical, especially because of its combination of functionality and relatively small footprint.

My advice: Use the Brimnes desk with integrated storage as the central workspace, ideally facing the room or at least the door for better orientation.

The cabinets work well as room dividers if you have multiple workstations. This way, you can create visual separation while still keeping storage within easy reach.

One more useful tip: Use the backs of the cabinets for hooks or magnetic boards to hang office supplies and keep the workspace organized.

I can understand how difficult it is to find a good balance between storage space and an open working atmosphere in a limited area.

I agree completely. Maybe you could also try using the movable cabinets from Brimnes, which can be rearranged quite easily – this way you can adjust your space as needed and avoid stress when more room is required.

In my experience, a subtle choice of colors and sufficient lighting significantly improve productivity and well-being in the office.
