Hello everyone, I’m considering using the IKEA Besta system as a dresser in the bedroom. My idea is to use it as a storage solution for clothes and accessories, but I’m unsure about the best way to configure the modules, which types of drawers or doors work best, and what height or depth is practical for a dresser. I’m also interested in how others have designed the Besta as a dresser, especially regarding stability, appearance, and functionality. Do you have any specific tips for planning, possibly suitable fronts or additions to make it look nicer and more practical? I look forward to your experiences and concrete suggestions.

The BESTA frame provides a solid foundation for a bedroom dresser, especially if you want to use storage space efficiently. Drawers of varying heights are recommended so you can organize smaller clothing items like socks and underwear in the smaller drawers, while sweaters or T-shirts fit into the larger drawers. The standard depth of 40 cm (16 inches) is practical for bedroom furniture. For stability and a clean appearance, I recommend always securing the dresser to the wall. Optionally, you can add top panels in wood or stone finishes to enhance the surface as a display area. The fronts are available in various colors and materials, from high gloss to matte or wood decor, allowing good customization to match your bedroom design.

To add to Julian's points: If you use the BESTA as a dresser in the bedroom, it is important to consider the combination of drawers and doors. Doors are suitable for storing larger items or things that are used less frequently, while drawers are more practical for items you need access to regularly. Additionally, I would recommend using internal organizing systems or inserts that are compatible with the BESTA. This helps maintain order and optimize storage space. Also useful are rubber buffers or soft-close mechanisms for the drawers to minimize noise.

It is important to securely attach the dresser to wall brackets. Otherwise, it will be unstable. For clothing, drawers with full-extension metal slides are better.

I built my BESTA as a dresser with two modules, each 60cm x 40cm (24 inches x 16 inches) wide. I placed a wooden board on top, which makes it look almost like a piece of furniture and also adds stability.

That's a good point, thanks. Could you also share some insights on the design of the fronts – for example, what is more durable or looks better on a dresser? I'm considering between high-gloss and matte fronts, possibly with frames or completely flat. What do you use?
