Hello everyone,

I am planning to transport furniture from the IKEA Brimnes series soon and want to make sure the pieces do not get damaged. My question to the community is: How can I safely transport IKEA Brimnes furniture, especially larger items like the bed frame or the wardrobe?

I am particularly interested in which materials or aids have proven useful (e.g., protective films, blankets, special straps) and if there are any helpful tips for securing and loading the furniture properly in the vehicle.

I have also heard that screws should not necessarily be fully loosened, and I am uncertain whether it is safer to transport the furniture assembled or disassembled.

I would be very grateful for any helpful advice or experience shared!

I agree that transporting disassembled parts is the safest method.

Additionally, I would recommend not leaving screws partially inserted, as this can make the part unstable and more prone to damage.

Large panels can also be transported upright, which protects them from scratches and similar issues. Important: place shock-absorbing materials underneath.

Some people swear by placing protective barriers made of cardboard between large pieces of furniture.

That’s a great tip! I also found moving stressful, but using padding between the panels significantly reduced the risk of damage.

Additionally, I wrapped each piece individually and always had a few extra blankets on hand – that gave me more peace of mind.

I would also recommend allowing plenty of time for loading, so you don’t have to rush and risk making mistakes.

Transporting upright is important, otherwise deformation can occur quickly. This applies especially to bed sides and plywood sheets.

For the safe transport of IKEA Brimnes furniture, please note the following:

- The furniture should be fully disassembled. Partial assembly or loose parts increase the risk of damage.
- Screws and small components must be systematically collected in bags and clearly labeled on the respective furniture piece.
- When loading the vehicle, ensure that heavy parts are placed at the bottom to provide stability.
- Using edge protectors additionally helps prevent damage.

If these points are followed, transportation can be carried out without any problems.

Thanks for the tip, that sounds very reasonable. How exactly do you handle the screws? Do you use special containers with labels? I’m concerned about losing loose parts.

True, people often underestimate that. Does anyone else have suggestions on how to safely load larger parts into a station wagon / estate car or small van?

I usually use small ziplock bags to separately pack the screws for each furniture part and then stick a small label with the respective description on them. I either attach these bags with gaffer tape to a part of the furniture or store them in a large box with compartments.

If you are using a station wagon: The best way is to lean the panels upright against the back seat so they don’t shift, and secure them with ratchet straps. Use blankets or padding to protect the surfaces. You can fill small gaps with soft items like cushions or blankets to prevent movement.
